JOSH ORANGE was originally formed in 1999. After a brief stint on the Sydney live music scene, front man Gordon Burke accepted an offer to front the (SONYBMG) act Oblivia. Gordon followed that path for 4 years, touring the country, releasing one album "The Careless Ones" (SONY BMG) the debut Single "My Friend" became a top 40 hit in Australia. Oblivia met its demise in 2004 after relentless touring took its toll on the band, along with some Record Company policy changes around supporting local talent. It was then that JOSH ORANGE (the name inherited from Gordon's nickname),reformed when Gordon, reunited with guitarist Andrew Wass, wrote a collection of songs, and released the independent debut album "Big Day Tomorrow". Recorded as a 3 piece, BDT is available on Itunes, Sanity, HMV and most record stores in Australia. Supporting the release of the album, JOSH ORANGE enlisted Alex Miller on Drums (formerly of JJJ Unearthed winners "Stonehenge" and a prior member of SXSW performing band "The Dream Poppies") and Shane McLaughlin, Guitarist, from popular Sydney Band "Newton's Cradle". JOSH ORANGE songs are a highly polished melodic mix of energetic pop songs, world class vocals and inspired lyrics. The sound is regularly likened to U2 and Cold Play. A tag the band reluctantly accepts however with a Dublin born front man delivering warm and familiar vocal tones reminiscent of Bono, the comparison is sometimes inevitable. JOSH ORANGE are commonly asked at shows, that with such a polished and marketable collection of songs why they aren't signed, the reply "we have never tried". The band wanted to establish a history of shows, further craft the JOSH ORANGE sound and build up a following before heading down that path again. JOSH ORANGE is now recording a follow up album working title "Rise and Shine". Two new tracks have been released; "Let it Go" and "Arials". Both tracks were Produced by Tony Juke (Oblivia and Hitmen), Engineered by Tim Whitten (Tim Produced the "Powderfinger" Aria album of the year "Double Allergic") and were mastered in the UK by Renowned Engineer Streaky (Depeche Mode, Moby, Snow Patrol, Fatboy Slim). The new tracks represent JOSH ORANGE's evolved dynamic sound and are distinctly more polished and developed than the JOSH ORANGE sound on the debut album in 2005. "Rise and Shine" is due for completion March 2008.
